Music Marketing Research 



This project, we had to work in groups of five or six. Each team member was assigned a different genre to research. My genre was sub rock, and we had to research two artists or bands that fit within it. Each member of the group had to research their own artists, and then we would bring everything together later.

I chose to research Imagine Dragons and Machine Gun Kelly (MGK). For both artists, I had to look into several marketing strategies such as:

  • Digital marketing and distribution: Social media strategies, streaming presence, websites, and online campaigns.

  • Non-digital marketing and distribution: Tours, merchandise, physical albums, interviews, and traditional media)

  • Target audience: Age range and interests.

  • Brand identity: How each artist presents themselves.

  • Brief history: Who they are and how they became part of the sub rock genre.

Furthermore, I also had to choose one music company to analyze. I decided to research Interscope Records (Universal Music Group) looking at how a brief history on how they formed the company and artists who have signed the records. For instance, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Blackpink, and much more.

This research step helped us understand the audience, brand identity, and promotional strategies is essential for creating an effective campaign.
